Whitewater
Paddling Instruction: While
I would recommend that students taking more advanced lessons (like
playboating) use their own boat, I will provide equipment for all
beginner lessons. This includes boats, paddles, PFDs, helmets, skirts,
etc.

2
Hour intro to whitewater paddling
- This is a great option for someone who wants to enjoy a day on and
off of the water and find out what paddling is all about. A portion of
the two hours will be spent on land learning about the equipment and
discussing some important safety concepts of paddling, the rest will be
on (and in the water) trying out some new skills and getting a feel for
paddling a kayak on flat water.
If participants have a pool, this session can be done in that familiar
setting so the students feel more comfortable when they fall out of
their boat (this session can also be done in a canoe)

2
Hour intro + 4 more 1 hour lessons - (6 hours total) - This
is the package I would recommend to most people. The student gets a
good taste of paddling and develops their skills enough to actually
take a trip down an easy river (such as the Delaware) in a whitewater
boat. |
$300.00 |
- 1
hour lessons - These
sessions are available to students who have completed the "Intro" class
or who have previous paddling experience
These
sessions could be (but are not limited to):
- Further beginner whitewater lessons
beyond the Intro
- Flatwater instruction in
canoeing
- Playboating (probably best
if done in 2hour sessions)
- Other
whitewater instruction such as: river reading, improving your rolling,
general stroke work, etc.
students must be
able to move their boat competently in flat water, and have some
knowledge of equipment and safety

$50.00/hour |
- Day
trip -
(for students who are ready
at the end of the 6-hour package)
- For this first river trip, I take the students (up to
two) down a
section of river appropriate to their skills. I generally choose a
section with a mix of flat, moving and class I to I+ "whitewater".
The trip will usually take up about half of a day and I will provide
snacks and lunch on the river.
I ask that a
parent accompany us and I will provide equipment and some basic
instruction. If no parent is available, I will provide for another
paddler to accompany us at an additional charge of $50.00 for the day.

- Weekend Creekin' Clinic - 1 or 2 days - If
you're already a class III-IV boater, but you've never ventured into
the vertical realm, or maybe you vaguely remember what boofing is all
about, but feel rusty, then let-skoboten! We'll travel to an
appropriate creek where I'll help you learn or refresh the skills you
need for
safe creekin'.
Due to issues of availability of water in the Summer, I will only be
able to schedule a small number of these clinics and I will need to
know of interest ahead of time. If you have any interest, please email
me ASAP.
Students
for these
clinics will need to have a solid roll (on both sides) and
be comfortable on at least class III water. It would be best
if
students also had their own creek boat. If you have questions please
email me. These clinics are also BYOK (bring your own kayak).
